A 1952 Ford Pick-Up
becomes a Unique Art Sculpture |

When Doug Taylor of Third Dimension Designs contracted Noble's Rod &
Custom Shop to assist on an Art Sculpture Project, the idea was complex
yet simple. He wanted Bill to take an old truck, fix it up, make it nice
& shiny, then cut holes in it for trees to grow through. This was to be
an art sculpture located at the entrance to a new shopping mall called
Coppersmith Mall in Steveston, BC. He was to take a 1952 Ford Pick-Up,
strip it, fix all the rust, and paint it a nice shiny red. He was to
remove the motor and any sharp edges. Then install lights, and cut holes
for the 50' whispering aspens that were being planted through the hood,
the roof, the fenders and the box. It turned out to be a very
interesting project, a bittersweet experience for those of us who like
to drive old trucks. It also wasn't quite as simple as it sounds. The
end result, once it was planted on its platform, once the trees were
planted and have started to sprout leafs, is quite stunning. It now has
the pride of the ultimate power parking spot, and doesn't have to worry
about shopping cart dings. *On a funny note - the last time we went to
update the photos we noticed that although it hadn't been brutally
vandalized or tagged, someone had tried to steal the new shiny door
handles. Sorry guys! This is not a parts truck. |
